Home visit

Have you always wanted to visit a Finnish family in their private home? Now it’s possible! Feel at home, away from home. Experience Finnish everyday life with Your Local Host and learn about Finland: its nature, the intriguing Nordic culture and the food! You are welcome to come and visit our home in Laukaa! Our family’s home is located in a beautiful neighbourhood close to the city of Jyväskylä, in the heart of Finnish Lakeland.

During your visit, you will get to learn more about the Finnish way of life while spending time with us. Come and enjoy the purest air in the world, exploring Finnish forests or simply playing games in the garden.

According to the season, you will get to experience a variety of typical Finnish activities: In the wintertime, we can build a snowman or enjoy sledding. When spring comes, it’s time for sowing seeds; come join us in planting peas, for example. In summer, when Finnish nature is at its most beautiful, our clean lakes will be inviting you in for a swim. When summer turns to autumn, it’s time to gather the natural ingredients nature has to offer as soon as the mushrooms and berries are ripe for picking. Pies baked from blueberries that have been picked from the nearby forest are delicious!

During your visit, we will prepare a pure and tasty Finnish meal that we can all enjoy together. Eating smoked fish with a nice garnish is a very tasty way to familiarise yourself with Finnish cuisine. Or challenge yourself and learn how to make perfect Finnish cinnamonbunn or crepes!

And if you are feeling a bit tired, I’ll give you a blanket and you can take a short nap on our couch. Can youplay piano or flute? It would be awesome to hear you play something – If the Dad and children are home, they might even join in. On your stay you might also meet other family relatives or our wonderful neigbours.

Original Sauna Experience

Perhaps the best way to feel what it’s like to be Finnish is to sit in the peace and quiet of a low-lit sauna. Finns enjoy a sauna whether it’s freezing cold outside in winter or a burning hot summer’s day: Works every time! Why wouldn’t you want to try it?

Almost every Finn has a sauna where he or she goes 1-3 times a week; with the kids and even with babies! Sauna has strong roots in Finnish tradition, and it’s a great honour to be invited to a Finnish sauna.

On our tour, you’ll have the chance to experience an authentic Finnish home sauna with Your Local Host. You are warmly welcome to our home sauna to learn more about the Finnish family way of enjoying sauna. Our sauna is located in Laukaa, close to the city of Jyväskylä in central Finland.

The Finnish sauna tradition includes time spent cooling off; in other words the enjoyment of the sauna is prolonged by spending a few moments outside in the open air. After enjoying some nice “löyly” moments in the sauna, let’s take some time to relax on our patio with some cool soft drinks and typical sauna snacks.

Take some time out for yourself and experience a Finnish home sauna as our guest. On your stay you might also meet other family relatives or our wonderful neigbours.
